How to use

Build a tracking URL before you share the campaign

UTM parameters tell analytics tools where a click came from. The UTM Builder creates those query tags in the browser so you can keep email, ads, social, affiliate, and QR links consistent without uploading destination URLs.

01

Start with the landing page

Paste the public URL people should open. Keep any existing query parameters that are not UTM tags, such as locale or referral codes.

02

Fill the three required tags

Add utm_source, utm_medium, and utm_campaign. These are the values analytics reports use to group traffic from ads, email, social, or QR codes.

03

Add optional detail when it helps

Use utm_term for paid keywords and utm_content for creative variants. Skip them when they would only create extra report noise.

04

Copy after the checks look clean

Review casing, spaces, HTTPS, and URL length. Then copy the tracking URL or parse an existing campaign link to edit it.

What each parameter means

Use source for the platform, medium for the channel type, and campaign for the named promotion. Term and content are optional extras for keywords and creative variants.

utm_source=newsletter
utm_medium=email
utm_campaign=weekly_digest
utm_content=header_cta

Practical tracking tips

  • Keep tags lowercase so Email and email do not split into two sources.
  • Prefer underscores over spaces in campaign names.
  • Reuse the same source and medium values across a channel so reports stay comparable.
  • Put the campaign name on the offer or time period, not on the destination page title.
  • Parse an old URL instead of rebuilding it when you only need to change one tag.
